Richard Ernest Atha (1931–2020) was a guard who played for the Indiana State Sycamores from 1950 to 1953, scoring 1,119 career points across 85 consecutive starts. He led the team in scoring in both the 1951–52 (12.3 ppg) and 1952–53 (14.9 ppg) seasons and earned three All-Indiana Collegiate Conference selections, along with Helms Athletic Foundation All-American honors in 1953. He helped the Sycamores to a third-place finish at the NAIA Tournament, averaging 20.0 ppg in tournament play. As a sophomore in 1950–51, Atha was a member of the U.S. National team that won the first gold medal in Pan American Games history.
