Dick McAuliffe

Richard John McAuliffe (November 29, 1939 – May 13, 2016) was a shortstop and second baseman who spent the bulk of his Major League Baseball career with the Detroit Tigers (1960–73) before finishing with the Boston Red Sox (1974–75). A product of Farmington High School in Farmington, Connecticut, McAuliffe signed with Detroit out of high school and rose through the farm system, leading the Sally League in runs, triples, and shortstop assists while with the Knoxville Smokies in 1960. He was part of the Tigers' 1968 World Series championship club and was noted for an unorthodox left-handed batting stance in which he held his hands unusually high and faced the pitcher with an open stance.
