Dick Sisler

Richard Alan Sisler (November 2, 1920 – November 20, 1998) played, coached, and managed in Major League Baseball. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of Hall of Fame first baseman George Sisler, a two-time .400 hitter, and brother of MLB relief pitcher Dave Sisler. After attending John Burroughs School and one year at Colgate University, he signed a minor-league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. He spent four years in the minors before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1943, rising to chief petty officer and serving as a physical instructor at the Bainbridge Naval Training Center in Maryland.
