Dick Thornton

Richard Quincy "Tricky Dick" Thornton (November 1, 1939 – December 19, 2014) was an American professional football player who spent his career in the Canadian Football League as a defensive back and wide receiver. A quarterback at Northwestern University, he was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 1961 NFL Draft — with his rights immediately traded to the St. Louis Cardinals — before choosing to play in Canada instead. With the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1961–1966) and later the Toronto Argonauts, he played through 1972. He was part of back-to-back Grey Cup championship teams in Winnipeg, winning in 1962 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the famously fog-shrouded 50th Grey Cup.
