Dossier

Donald Frederick McCauley Jr. (born May 12, 1949) is an American former professional football player who played running back for the Baltimore Colts of the National Football League. He attended Garden City High School in Garden City, New York, where he was a power-hitting catcher on the baseball team and a halfback on the football squad. His football play earned him a full-ride scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

McCauley played college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels from 1968 to 1970. During that span he was twice recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year. As a senior in 1970 he was named a consensus All-American and finished ninth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy.

Selected in the first round of the 1971 NFL draft, McCauley spent his entire professional career with the Baltimore Colts, playing 11 seasons in the NFL.

In 2001, McCauley was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
