Donny Anderson

Garry Don Anderson (born May 16, 1943) is an American former professional football player who was a halfback and punter in the National Football League for nine seasons. Born in Borger, Texas, he was the son of John Washington Anderson and Ann Alycez (Hill) Anderson and grew up in Stinnett, the seat of Hutchinson County in the Texas panhandle. He graduated from Stinnett High School in 1961, where he was a multi-sport athlete: all-state in football and basketball, a placer at the state track meet in the hurdles and relay, and a summer baseball player.

At Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in Lubbock, Anderson played halfback and earned the nickname the "Golden Palomino." He was a two-time All-American, in 1964 and 1965, and a three-time all-Southwest Conference selection from 1963 through 1965, setting many of the school's football records.

The Green Bay Packers selected Anderson in the first round of the 1965 NFL draft, seventh overall, in a draft class that also included Dick Butkus, Gale Sayers, Joe Namath, and Fred Biletnikoff. He played as a halfback and punter for the Packers and later the St. Louis Cardinals over his nine NFL seasons.
