Doug Favell

Douglas Robert Favell, born April 5, 1945, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender and former box lacrosse player who played in the National Hockey League for the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Colorado Rockies.

Favell played his junior hockey with the Niagara Falls Flyers of the OHA, where his teammates included future Flyers goaltender Bernie Parent. The club won the Memorial Cup in 1965, after which both goalies began their professional careers in the Boston Bruins organization, which held their rights. Over the next two seasons, Favell played in the Bruins' farm system.

Favell was among the few goaltenders of his era to employ the butterfly style, often dropping to the ice to block shots at a time when the stand-up style dominated. In this he resembled Chicago Black Hawks goaltender Tony Esposito.

With the addition of six expansion clubs for the 1967–68 NHL season, Favell and Parent were selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft. The two goalies split the work in that first season and led the Flyers to a first-place finish in the NHL's Western Division. Favell posted a 2.27 goals-against average with four shutouts.
