Dub Jones

William Augustus "Dub" Jones (December 29, 1924 – November 2, 2024) was a halfback who played ten seasons in professional football across the AAFC and NFL during the late 1940s and early 1950s, spending the bulk of his career with the Cleveland Browns. He grew up in Ruston, Louisiana, where his high school team won the 1941 state championship. He attended Louisiana State University before transferring to Tulane under a wartime Navy program, playing two seasons for the Green Wave. He entered the AAFC with the Miami Seahawks in 1946 and reached Cleveland by 1948, when the Browns went undefeated and won the AAFC title. Jones shares the NFL record for touchdowns scored in a single game, with six.
