Dossier

Walter Henry "Dutch" Ruether (1893–1970) was a left-handed pitcher who spent eleven seasons in the major leagues with five clubs: the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Robins, Washington Senators, and New York Yankees. Born in Alameda, California, he attended St. Ignatius College before reaching the majors. Ruether appeared in three World Series across his career — with Cincinnati in 1919, Washington in 1925, and New York in 1926 — a mark of unusual postseason longevity for a pitcher of his era. He was also a member of the 1927 Yankees but did not appear in that year's Series.
