Dwane Casey

Dwane Lyndon Casey (born April 17, 1957) is an American retired basketball coach who most recently served as head coach of the Detroit Pistons before transitioning to a front office position with the team. Born in Indianapolis, Casey moved with his family to Morganfield, Kentucky, at the age of three. He graduated from Union County High School in 1975.

A top recruit out of high school, Casey committed to the University of Kentucky, where he played for the Wildcats. During the 1977–78 season he helped guide the team to an NCAA Tournament Championship, and he served as team captain in his senior year. To support himself during the summers, Casey worked a number of odd jobs, including coal mining and tobacco farming. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in business administration in 1979.

Casey played and coached NCAA basketball for over a decade before moving on to the NBA. As a professional head coach, he led the Minnesota Timberwolves and later the Toronto Raptors, winning the NBA Coach of the Year Award in 2018 during his tenure in Toronto. He subsequently became head coach of the Detroit Pistons, before moving into the team's front office.
