Earl Shannon

Earl F. Shannon (November 23, 1921 – July 8, 2002) was an American professional basketball player and coach. He spent three seasons with the Providence Steamrollers of the Basketball Association of America before signing with the Boston Celtics in 1949, averaging 8.6 points and 1.3 assists per game across his playing career. After retiring as a player, Shannon took on coaching roles as freshman basketball coach at the University of Rhode Island and an assistant at Providence College. In 1963–64 he served as Bryant University's inaugural head coach, guiding the program to a 12–11 record in its first-ever season. He also worked as an FBI agent.
