Dossier

Junious "Buck" Buchanan was a defensive tackle who played his entire professional career with the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFL and NFL. Born in Gainesville, Alabama, in 1940, he attended A. H. Parker High School in Birmingham before reaching the professional ranks. At 6 feet 7 inches and 270 pounds, his size gave him a pronounced advantage in the trenches. He was the first African American selected first overall in an AFL or NFL draft. Buchanan was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996, and was named to the NFL 100th Anniversary Team.
