Ed Budde

Edward Leon Budde (November 2, 1940 – December 19, 2023) was an American professional football guard who played his entire career for the Kansas City Chiefs in the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL).

Budde was born in Highland Park, Michigan. He attended Denby High School in Detroit, where he was a three-year starter on both offense and defense and earned high school All-American honors as an offensive tackle. His high school team posted a perfect season in 1957 and won a championship, but was penalized with the forfeiture of four games after another key player forged a signature on a medical report. As a senior in 1958, Budde was named to the Detroit Free Press's All-City League offensive first team at tackle and was later selected to the paper's first-team all-state squad. The Associated Press named him a second-team Class A All-State tackle, behind future NFL All-Pro and offensive line coach Howard Mudd. Standing 6 ft 4 in and weighing 230 pounds, Budde was regarded by his high school coach, Ed Rutherford, as a man among boys and one of the top players he had seen.
