Ed George

Dossier
George Shaw was a professional football quarterback who played seven seasons in the NFL and one season in the AFL. Born in Portland, Oregon, he attended Grant High School before being selected first overall in the 1955 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts. Shaw started 17 consecutive games for Baltimore before a leg injury in 1956 forced the team to insert free agent backup Johnny Unitas at quarterback. He was a member of the Colts team that defeated the New York Giants in sudden death overtime to win the 1958 NFL Championship, a game widely remembered as one of the most significant in professional football history.
