Ed Macauley

Charles Edward Macauley (March 22, 1928 – November 8, 2011), nicknamed "Easy Ed," was a professional basketball player and coach. He played college basketball at Saint Louis University, where his team won the NIT championship in 1948 and where he was named the Associated Press Player of the Year in 1949. He had attended St. Louis University High School before college. His nickname originated during a pre-game warmup in his sophomore year, when fans shouted "Take it easy, Ed" after he, the team captain, ran onto the court without realizing the national anthem was being played.

Macauley played in the National Basketball Association from 1949 to 1959 for the St. Louis Bombers, Boston Celtics, and St. Louis Hawks. The Bombers selected him with the fifth pick to begin his professional career in 1949. Over the course of his career he earned seven All-Star selections and won a championship with the Hawks in 1958.
