Dossier

Eddie Fogler (born June 12, 1948) is an American former college basketball player and coach. He played for the University of North Carolina from 1967 to 1970, where he was a point guard on two NCAA Final Four teams.

A native of Flushing, New York, Fogler was an All-City guard at Flushing High School. North Carolina had a tradition of recruiting New York players, a practice begun under coach Frank McGuire and continued by coach Dean Smith. Fogler attended a summer camp in North Carolina before his senior year and enrolled at Chapel Hill, where he played freshman ball under coach Larry Brown. As a junior, he was a solid starter at guard, and the Tar Heels reached the Final Four as ACC Champions and ACC Tournament champions, finishing 27–5. North Carolina lost in the semifinals to Purdue, 92–65, a team led by All-American Rick Mount.

Fogler graduated from UNC with a degree in mathematics. He spent the following year teaching and coaching at DeMatha.
