Eddie Murray

Eddie Clarence Murray, born February 24, 1956 and nicknamed "Steady Eddie," is an American former Major League Baseball first baseman, designated hitter, and coach. He spent most of his career with the Baltimore Orioles, where he ranks fourth in team history in both games played and hits. Murray was drafted in 1973 and began his playing career with the Orioles in 1977. In his rookie season he batted .283 across 160 games with 27 home runs and 173 hits, earning the American League Rookie of the Year award. The following season he was named to the All-Star team for the first time, batting .285 with 27 home runs in 161 games.

Murray reached the World Series twice with Baltimore, in 1979 and 1983. In the decisive Game 5 of the 1983 Series, he hit two home runs in a 5-0 victory, securing his first and only championship. Over his first twelve seasons he recorded eleven 20-home-run campaigns, leading the league in 1981 with 22, and topped 100 RBIs five times.

A switch-hitter, Murray has more runs batted in than any other switch-hitter in MLB history, and his 996 RBIs during the 1980s were more than any other player that decade. Though he never won a Most Valuable Player Award, he finished among the top ten in MVP voting eight times.
