Elgin Baylor

Elgin Gay Baylor (September 16, 1934 – March 22, 2021) was an American professional basketball player, coach, and executive who played 14 seasons as a forward in the National Basketball Association for the Minneapolis and Los Angeles Lakers. A gifted shooter, strong rebounder, and accomplished passer, he was best known for his trademark hanging jump shot. Baylor was the No. 1 draft pick in 1958 and was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 1959. Over his career he was an 11-time NBA All-Star and a 10-time member of the All-NBA first team. He remains the leader for most career rebounds in Lakers franchise history with 11,463.

Baylor was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1977. In 1996 he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History, and in October 2021 he was honored again as one of the league's greatest players of all time with selection to the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team.

After his playing career, Baylor spent 22 years as general manager of the Los Angeles Clippers, managing the team for the majority of the Donald Sterling ownership period. He won the NBA Executive of the Year Award in 2006.
