Elmer Vasko

Elmer "Moose" Vasko was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played thirteen seasons in the National Hockey League between the Chicago Black Hawks and Minnesota North Stars. He was born December 11, 1935, in Duparquet, Quebec, one of the few players of Slovak descent in the NHL's younger years. Vasko was a member of the Chicago team that won the Stanley Cup in 1961. He earned Second Team All-Star honours in 1962–63 and again in 1963–64. Despite playing in an era without mouthguards or helmets, he never lost any of his teeth during his NHL career. Vasko died October 30, 1998. His great-niece, Alexa Vasko, is a professional ice hockey player for the Ottawa Charge of the Professional Women's Hockey League.
