Emmitt Thomas

Emmitt Earl Thomas (born June 3, 1943) is an American former professional football player and coach in the National Football League. He played college football at the now-disbanded Bishop College in Dallas and joined the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent, where he played cornerback. Thomas was named an AFL All-Star in 1968, and in the 1969 season he led all of professional football with nine interceptions, returning them for 146 yards and a touchdown as the Chiefs won the AFL Championship and the fourth and final AFL-NFL World Championship in Super Bowl IV. After the Chiefs joined the NFL in the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, he was selected to the AFC-NFC Pro Bowl four times, in 1971, 1972, 1974, and 1975, and was named All-Pro three times. He holds the Chiefs' all-time interception record with 58, which ranks ninth on professional football's all-time list. Following his playing career, Thomas became a coach, serving as an assistant with the Washington Redskins and winning Super Bowl XXII and Super Bowl XXVI in that role. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after being nominated by the Seniors Committee.
