Frank Ramsey

Frank Vernon Ramsey Jr. (July 13, 1931 – July 8, 2018) was an American professional basketball player and coach. Raised in Madisonville, Kentucky, he was a multi-sport athlete at the University of Kentucky, playing both baseball and basketball. Under coach Adolph Rupp, Ramsey helped the Wildcats win the 1951 NCAA Championship as a sophomore, defeating Kansas State 68–58. In the fall of 1952, a point shaving scandal involving three Kentucky players forced the school to forfeit the upcoming season, which would have been Ramsey's senior year; a fourth player, his 1951 teammate Bill Spivey, was accused of involvement but denied the charge.

A 6-3 swingman, Ramsey played his entire nine-year NBA career, from 1954 to 1964, with the Boston Celtics. He played a major role in the early part of the team's dynasty, winning seven championships. After his playing career, he served as head coach of the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association during the 1970–71 season. Ramsey was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982.
