Frank Selvy

Franklin Delano Selvy (November 9, 1932 – August 13, 2024) was an American National Basketball Association player, best known for holding the record for the most points (100) in a Division I college basketball game.

Born in Corbin, Kentucky, Selvy was named after Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who had been elected President the day before Selvy was born. One of ten children of John Robert Selvy, a coal miner, and Iva Selvy, he lived in a two-bedroom home and worked as a summer migrant worker picking tomatoes in Indiana at age 12. He attended Corbin High School, where he starred in basketball under coach Harry Taylor despite limited playing time owing to his work obligations. He was an All-State player and a teammate of College Football Hall of Fame inductee Roy Kidd.

Selvy was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1954 NBA draft. He was a two-time NBA All-Star and played nine seasons in the league.
