Frank Thomas

Frank Edward Thomas Jr., born May 27, 1968 and nicknamed "the Big Hurt," is an American former designated hitter and first baseman who played in Major League Baseball from 1990 to 2008. Drafted seventh overall by the Chicago White Sox in the 1989 MLB draft, he made his major league debut the following year and immediately impressed with his hitting. He spent all but his final three seasons with the White Sox, playing for three American League teams in all.

A five-time All-Star, Thomas is the only player in major league history to post seven consecutive seasons (1991–1997) batting at least .300 with 100 runs batted in, 100 runs scored, 100 walks, and 20 home runs. He was named AL Most Valuable Player by unanimous vote in 1993, when he became the first White Sox player to hit 40 home runs and led the team to a division title; he repeated as MVP in the strike-shortened 1994 season. In 1997 he won the AL batting title with a .347 mark.

Thomas won a World Series with the White Sox in 2005, though he was injured during both the regular season and the World Series. A two-time AL MVP, he is widely considered one of the greatest right-handed hitters in major league history.
