Frankie Albert

Frank Cullen Albert (January 27, 1920 – September 4, 2002) was an American professional football player and coach who played quarterback and punter. Born in Chicago, he attended Glendale High School in Glendale, California, before enrolling at Stanford University, where he was coached by T formation innovator Clark Shaughnessy. Albert became the first college T-formation quarterback in modern football history, and as Stanford's quarterback in 1940 and 1941 he earned all-American honors. He led the 1940 team to a 9–0 regular season and a No. 2 national ranking behind Minnesota, capped by a 21–13 victory over Nebraska in the 1941 Rose Bowl.

Albert turned professional with the San Francisco 49ers, playing in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) and later in the National Football League (NFL). He was the first left-handed quarterback to play in the NFL, and many who saw him play credited him as the greatest left-handed quarterback ever to play the game. Beyond his playing career, Albert also worked as a coach. He died on September 4, 2002.
