Frankie Frisch

Frank Francis Frisch (September 9, 1897 – March 12, 1973), nicknamed "the Fordham Flash" and "the Old Flash," was an American professional baseball second baseman and manager. Born in The Bronx, New York City, he attended Fordham Preparatory School, graduating in 1916, and continued to Fordham University, where he starred in four sports: baseball, football, basketball, and track. His speed earned him the nickname "the Fordham Flash."

In 1919, Frisch left Fordham to sign with the New York Giants of the National League, moving directly to the majors without playing in the minor leagues. He played for the Giants from 1919 to 1926 and for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1927 to 1937. He later managed the Cardinals (1933–1938), the Pittsburgh Pirates (1940–1946), and the Chicago Cubs (1949–1951).

Frisch is tied with Yogi Berra for the most World Series doubles, with 10, and holds the record for the most World Series hits, with 58, among players who never played for the New York Yankees, a total exceeded only by Berra and Mickey Mantle.

He is a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum.
