Fred Kendall

Fred Lyn Kendall (born January 31, 1949, Torrance, California) was a right-handed catcher who played 877 games in Major League Baseball between 1969 and 1980 for the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, and Boston Red Sox. Selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth round of the 1967 draft out of Torrance High School, he was claimed by the expansion Padres in 1968 and became their regular catcher from 1973 through 1976. That first season he was voted the club's most valuable player after posting career highs of .282 and 10 home runs. His son Jason Kendall also caught in the majors and was a three-time All-Star.
