Freddie Lindstrom

Frederick Charles Lindstrom (November 21, 1905 – October 4, 1981) was an American professional baseball player who played as a third baseman and outfielder in Major League Baseball from 1924 until 1936. He played for the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Brooklyn Dodgers across 13 seasons.

Lindstrom debuted with the Giants in 1924. In 1930, Giants manager John McGraw ranked him ninth among the top 20 players of the previous quarter century. Babe Ruth selected him as his National League all-star third baseman over Pie Traynor for the decade leading up to the first inter-league All-Star Game in 1933. Bill James later rated Lindstrom 43rd on his all-time list of third basemen, placed him among the top three under-21 players at the position, and called the 1927 Giants infield of Lindstrom, Rogers Hornsby, Travis Jackson and Bill Terry the best of the decade.

In 1931, injuries — including a chronic bad back and a broken leg — prompted his switch to the outfield. The Giants traded him to the Pirates before the 1933 season, and he also played for the Cubs and Dodgers before retiring after the 1936 season. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976.
