Garney Henley

Garney Henley (born December 21, 1935) is an American former professional football player who spent his career as a defensive back and wide receiver in the Canadian Football League. Born in Elgin, North Dakota, he moved with his family to Hayti, South Dakota, as a child. He attended Huron College in South Dakota, where he was a Dean's List honors student and played running back on the varsity football team from 1956 to 1959. In 1959, he broke First Team NAIA All-America records with 394 points and more than 4,000 rushing yards.

Henley was drafted in 1960 by the National Football League's Green Bay Packers in the 15th round, 173rd overall, but was traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of Ontario, Canada. As a defensive back, he intercepted 59 passes for 916 yards and five touchdowns, and was selected an All-Star nine times. Following his transition to offense, he earned All-Star honors for the tenth time in 1972 as a wide receiver. That same year he won the CFL's Most Outstanding Player Award, and the Tiger-Cats won the Grey Cup at their home field, Ivor Wynne Stadium, in Hamilton, Ontario. In 2025, his number 26 was retired by the Tiger-Cats.
