Dossier

Garabed Sarkis "Garo" Yepremian (June 2, 1944 – May 15, 2015) was an Armenian-Cypriot American football placekicker who played 15 seasons in the National Football League, primarily with the Miami Dolphins. Born in Larnaca, then part of the British colony of Cyprus, to Armenian parents, he had earlier played in an organized soccer league in London. Because of that background he was not eligible to play college football in the United States. He and his brother Krikor, who attended Indiana University on a soccer scholarship, immigrated to the United States; Yepremian had been offered a chance to play with Arsenal, but Krikor wanted his brother to play American football and, acting as his agent, secured him a contract.

Across nine seasons with the Dolphins, Yepremian led the NFL in scoring in 1971 and earned two Pro Bowl selections and two first-team All-Pro honors. He helped Miami win back-to-back Super Bowl titles, his first championship coming in Super Bowl VII as a member of the 1972 Dolphins, the only team to complete a perfect season in NFL history. He also played for the Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring in 1981.
