Gary Melchionni

Gary Dennis Melchionni (born January 19, 1951) is a retired American professional basketball player who competed in the National Basketball Association and other leagues as a guard. He played college basketball at Duke, where he earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and became the first player in school history to captain the Blue Devils twice. At the professional level he played for the Phoenix Suns.
Before college, Melchionni captained his Bishop Eustace Prep team to an undefeated 26–0 record and a New Jersey state championship in his senior year. After his playing career ended, he returned to Duke for law school. He went on to serve as President of the Duke alumni association and built a legal career at Stevens and Lee, a Lancaster, Pennsylvania law firm. He is the father of former Duke basketball player Lee Melchionni.
