George Blanda

George Frederick Blanda (September 17, 1927 – September 27, 2010) was an American professional football quarterback and placekicker whose career spanned both the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Kentucky from 1945 to 1948, arriving under coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, who joined in Blanda's sophomore year following a 1–9 season in 1945; the Wildcats lost only three games in each of the next three years. Blanda served as the starting quarterback in his final two seasons (1947–1948), completing 120 of 242 passes (49.6 percent) for 1,451 yards and 12 touchdowns.

As a professional, Blanda played a record 26 seasons, the most in the sport's history, and at the time of his retirement had scored more points than any player in history. He retired in August 1976 at age 48 as the oldest player in professional football, a distinction that still stands. He was one of only three players to appear in four different decades, alongside John Carney and Jeff Feagles, and he holds the records for most extra points made (943) and attempted (959).
