George Eugene Mitterwald (born June 7, 1945) played 887 Major League Baseball games as a catcher over 11 seasons (1966; 1968–77), splitting his career between the Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs. Nicknamed "the Baron," the right-handed hitter and thrower stood 6-foot-2 and weighed 195 pounds. He was traded from Minnesota to Chicago for Randy Hundley at the 1973 Winter Meetings. After his playing career, Mitterwald served as bullpen coach for the Oakland Athletics (1979–82) and New York Yankees (1988) under manager Billy Martin, and managed in the minor leagues with Modesto and Orlando in the 1980s.
