George Nostrand

George Thomas Nostrand (January 25, 1924 – November 8, 1981) was an American professional basketball player who competed in the NBA from 1946 to 1950. The 6-foot-8 power forward/center attended High Point University and the University of Wyoming before joining the Toronto Huskies, Cleveland Rebels, Providence Steamrollers, Boston Celtics, Tri-Cities Blackhawks, and Chicago Stags over his four-season career, averaging 8.2 points per game. Nostrand is best remembered for his role in promoting the NBA's first-ever game on November 1, 1946, when Canadian newspaper advertisements offered free admission to any fan taller than the Huskies center.
