Gerry James

Gerry James (Edwin Fitzgerald James; born October 22, 1934, Regina, Saskatchewan; died February 13, 2024) was a Canadian professional athlete who competed in both the CFL and NHL. A graduate of Kelvin High School in Winnipeg, he joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as a running back and kicker in 1952 at age 17, one of the youngest players in CFL history. He helped the Bombers reach six Grey Cup appearances and also played right wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1955 to 1960. He remains the only player to compete in a Grey Cup (1959, won) and a Stanley Cup Final (1960, lost) in the same season. He is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, as is his father, Eddie James.
