Gerry O'Flaherty

Gerard Joseph "Gerry" O'Flaherty (born August 31, 1950) is a Canadian-American retired professional ice hockey player whose career ran from 1971 to 1979. He played in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, and Atlanta Flames, and also spent time with the Tulsa Oilers of the minor Central Hockey League.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, O'Flaherty was the son of John "Peanuts" O'Flaherty, who played for the Pittsburgh Hornets. He later moved to Toronto, Ontario, where he played in the MTHL with the North York Rangers. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected him in the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft, and he played a single year there before being claimed by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1972 NHL Intra-League Draft. With the Canucks he registered three consecutive 20-goal seasons. Across his NHL career he appeared in 438 regular season games between 1971 and 1979. When he scored 25 goals in 1974–75, it was the most in a single season by an American-born player, breaking the previous mark of 23 set by Tom Williams in 1962–63.

Internationally, O'Flaherty represented the United States at the inaugural 1976 Canada Cup.
