Gino Marchetti

Gino John Marchetti, an American professional football player, was a defensive end and offensive tackle in the National Football League from 1952 to 1966. Born January 2, 1926, near Smithers, West Virginia, in Kayford, he was the son of Italian immigrants Ernesto and Maria (Dalforte) Marchetti, who had emigrated from Lucca in Tuscany. The family moved to Antioch, California, while Marchetti was young, where his father opened the Nevada Club, serving food and drinks.

Marchetti played the 1952 season for the Dallas Texans before joining the Baltimore Colts, with whom he remained from 1953 to 1966. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1972. In 1969, he was named to the National Football League 50th Anniversary All-Time Team, and in 1994 to the 75th Anniversary All-Time Team. In 2019, he was unanimously named to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. Marchetti is one of only six players selected to the 50th, 75th, and 100th anniversary teams, joining his Baltimore Colts teammate Johnny Unitas among that group.

Marchetti died on April 29, 2019.
