Glen Combs

Glen Courtney Combs, born October 30, 1946, in Hazard, Kentucky, is a retired American basketball player. A 6'2" guard, he played college basketball at Virginia Tech, where as a junior he led the 1966–67 team to the Elite Eight while averaging 21.3 points per game. In the Sweet 16 game against Indiana he scored 29 points, which as of 2019 remained the school record for points in an NCAA tournament game. As a senior he averaged 20.9 points. Known as "The Kentucky Rifle" for his long-range shooting, Combs was drafted by the National Basketball Association's San Diego Rockets in 1968 but never played for them, choosing instead to spend his entire career in the rival American Basketball Association after being selected by the Dallas Chaparrals in the 1968 ABA Draft. He played for the Dallas/Texas Chaparrals, the Utah Stars, the Memphis Tams, and the Virginia Squires, and appeared in three ABA All-Star Games, in 1970, 1971, and 1972. He was a member of the Utah Stars when they won the ABA Championship in 1971, and he led the league in three-point baskets made, with 103, during the 1971–72 season. When he retired in 1975, Combs had scored 7,666 career points.
