Glen Sather

Glen Cameron Sather (born September 2, 1943) is a Canadian former ice hockey player, coach, and executive. Before turning to coaching, he played professionally as a left winger in the WHA and NHL, suiting up for several teams over a ten-year span.

Sather is best known for coaching the Edmonton Oilers to four Stanley Cup victories during the 1980s. He played a key role in attracting talented players, including Wayne Gretzky, helping to build the Oilers into a dynasty of that era. Gretzky has credited Sather, alongside his father Walter Gretzky, as one of his most important mentors.

Beyond the NHL, Sather was instrumental in assembling Canadian national teams, including the 1984 Canada Cup, which the team won; the 1994 Ice Hockey World Championship, where the squad took gold; and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey, in which the team finished as finalists.

Sather later served as general manager of the New York Rangers until stepping down on July 1, 2015, after which he became the club's president, a post he held until April 4, 2019. He continued as the Rangers' senior advisor and alternate governor before stepping down from that advisory role on June 26, 2024.
