Glenn Martin "Shake and Bake" Doughty was born on January 30, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, where he attended Pershing High School. He played college football as a tailback and wingback for the Michigan Wolverines from 1969 to 1971 before entering the NFL as a wide receiver. Doughty spent his entire eight-year professional career with the Baltimore Colts, from 1972 to 1979. After football, he built Baltimore's Shake & Bake Family Fun Center in 1982, a community recreation center featuring a bowling alley and roller rink. In 1994, he co-founded Career Information & Training Network, a St. Louis company producing multicultural career education videos for schools and businesses.
