Greg Landry

Gregory Paul Landry (December 18, 1946 – October 4, 2024) was an American professional football quarterback who played in the National Football League and the United States Football League from 1968 to 1984. Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, he was the son of Alvin and Felixa "Fannie" (Worsowicz) Landry, both factory workers; Fannie's parents had emigrated from Poland. He attended Nashua High School, where he played football, graduating in 1964. As a junior in 1962 he was named to the Nashua Telegraph's New Hampshire All-Scholastic football team, and in his senior year he served as co-captain and received the Buddy Harvey trophy as the team's Most Valuable Player, chosen by his teammates. He also starred in baseball.

Landry played college football for the UMass Minutemen from 1965 to 1967. He was selected in the first round of the 1968 NFL draft, taken 11th overall. In the NFL he played for the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Colts and Chicago Bears, and he later competed in the USFL. After his playing career he became an assistant coach. Landry is considered a forerunner of the dual-threat quarterback.
