Hal Newhouser

Harold Newhouser (1921–1998), nicknamed "Prince Hal," pitched in Major League Baseball from 1939 to 1955, spending the bulk of his career with the Detroit Tigers. A right-handed pitcher, he struggled in his early seasons before breaking out in 1944 with 29 wins — the highest single-season total for a pitcher since 1931 — earning him the first of back-to-back Most Valuable Player Awards in 1944 and 1945, making him the first pitcher to win the award in consecutive years. He was selected for seven straight All-Star Games from 1942 to 1948 and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.
