Dossier

Harley Edward Sewell (April 18, 1931 – December 17, 2011) was a professional football guard who played college football at the University of Texas before being selected by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 1953 NFL Draft. He stepped immediately into the starting right guard position as a rookie and held it for ten seasons, remaining with Detroit through 1962 before finishing his career with the Los Angeles Rams in 1963. Known for his speed and hustle as a pulling guard, Sewell was regarded as one of the most conditioned linemen on the Lions' roster during the 1950s and early 1960s.
