Henri Richard

Joseph Henri Richard (February 29, 1936 – March 6, 2020) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played centre in the National Hockey League. Born in Montreal, he was the seventh of eight children of Alice (Laramée) and Onésime Richard; his father worked as a machinist for the Canadian Pacific Railway at the Angus Yards. His older brother Maurice Richard joined the Montreal Canadiens in 1942, when Henri was six years old, and became a star known as the Rocket. Henri was later nicknamed the "Pocket Rocket" after him.

Richard played his entire professional career with the Montreal Canadiens, from 1955 to 1975. Over those two decades he won the Stanley Cup eleven times as a player, the most in NHL history. That total ties him with Bill Russell of the National Basketball Association for the most championships won by an athlete in a North American sports league.

In 2017 Richard was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in history. A fellow Hockey Hall of Famer alongside his brother Maurice, he died on March 6, 2020.
