Howard William Morenz (1902–1937) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played centre for the Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Black Hawks, and New York Rangers over 14 NHL seasons beginning in 1923. Known as the "Stratford Streak" and "Mitchell Meteor" for his skating speed, Morenz set several league scoring records and placed in the top ten league scorers ten times. He won the Hart Trophy as the league's most valuable player three times and led the Canadiens in both goals and points for seven consecutive seasons. He was a member of three Stanley Cup–winning teams, all with Montreal.
