Ira Flagstead

Ira James Flagstead (September 22, 1893 – March 13, 1940), sometimes called "Pete," was an American outfielder who played 13 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Detroit Tigers (1917, 1919–1923), Boston Red Sox (1923–1929), Washington Senators (1929), and Pittsburgh Pirates (1929–1930). In 1,218 major league games he posted a .290 batting average and a .370 on-base percentage. As a Tigers rookie in 1919 he hit .331, fifth-best in the American League. After a trade to Boston in 1923, Flagstead developed into one of the American League's top center fielders, leading all AL outfielders that year with 31 assists and eight double plays.
