Isaac Curtis

Isaac Fisher Curtis (born October 20, 1950) is an American former professional football player who played wide receiver in the National Football League. He spent his entire NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals from 1973 to 1984.

Curtis grew up in California, where he starred as a running back and hurdler at Santa Ana High School, setting a conference record in the hurdles that stood for years. He was talented enough that a former coach, in 1985, called him the best running back ever to play in Orange County.

On a football scholarship to the University of California, Berkeley, Curtis spent three years as a member of Cal's track team while also playing running back and kick returner for the football team. He contributed 18 points to Cal's team title at the 1970 NCAA University Division Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In January 1971, however, the NCAA revoked those points after Cal failed to predict that Curtis' grade-point average would fall below 1.6, retroactively costing the school the title. The decision was controversial as the first use of the "1.6" rule to revoke a team championship. Curtis later transferred to San Diego State, playing college football for the Aztecs after his time with the California Golden Bears.
