John Bradshaw Butler (1927–2013) played cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1951 to 1959, joining the club as an undrafted free agent on the strength of a recommendation passed through Art Rooney Sr.'s brother Silas, who served as athletic director at St. Bonaventure University. Butler intercepted five passes as a rookie and posted nine in 1953, including four in a single game against Washington on December 13 of that year — one a 35-yard return for the game-winning touchdown. He led the NFL with ten interceptions in 1957. Butler was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
