Dossier

John Harold Lambert, born July 8, 1952, in Mantua, Ohio (also reported as Ravenna, Ohio), is an American former professional football player who played linebacker. He spent his entire 11-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League.

Lambert grew up working on his grandfather's farm during the summers and attended Crestwood High School in Mantua. There he played quarterback and cornerback, earning All-League honors at cornerback and winning a state championship. He also played baseball as a catcher and basketball, averaging 17.9 points and 13 rebounds a game as a senior. During a high school basketball practice he lost his four upper front teeth when a teammate's head collided with his mouth. The school later named its football field Jack Lambert Stadium.

He went on to play college football for the Kent State Golden Flashes before joining the Steelers, where he became the starting middle linebacker on four Super Bowl-winning teams.

Lambert was recognized by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990 as "the greatest linebacker of his era," and in 2019 he was named to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.
