Dossier

John Warren Marin, born October 12, 1944, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, was an American professional basketball player whose career in the National Basketball Association ran from 1966 to 1977. A 6-foot-7 small forward, he attended Farrell High School in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where as a senior in 1961–62 he scored 529 points, earned first-team All-State honors, and led the team to the league title. The coaches and writers of Section 3 of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League named him the section's most valuable player and a unanimous first-team all-Section 3 selection, having placed him on the second team the previous year. He was also valedictorian of his graduating class.

Marin played his college basketball at Duke University. The left-handed forward entered the NBA in 1966 and was named to the 1967 NBA All-Rookie Team. Over eleven seasons he played for the Baltimore Bullets, Houston Rockets, Buffalo Braves, and Chicago Bulls. He was selected as an All-Star twice and led the league in free throw percentage during the 1971–72 season. He scored 12,541 points across his career.
