Jake Scott

Jacob E. Scott III (July 20, 1945 – November 19, 2020) was an American professional football player who played safety and punt returner in the National Football League from 1970 to 1978. He grew up in Athens, Georgia, attended high school at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia, and then spent two years at the Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, before playing college football at the University of Georgia. The Miami Dolphins selected him in the seventh round of the 1970 NFL draft.

Scott spent six seasons with the Dolphins and three with the Washington Redskins. He was selected to the Pro Bowl five consecutive times between 1971 and 1975 and was named first- or second-team All-Pro on five occasions. He recorded 35 interceptions as a Dolphin and another 14 with the Redskins. He remains the Miami Dolphins' all-time leader in interceptions with 35.

With Miami, Scott won back-to-back Super Bowl championships following the 1972 and 1973 seasons, and he was named Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl VII. He wore number 13 throughout his career. The number was later made famous in Miami by Dan Marino and has since been retired in Marino's honor.
